After a few weeks summer break, we kicked off the month by teaming up with the West Wiltshire Young Singers for a fundraiser concert in Bradford-on-Avon, organised by the Bradford-on-Avon Lions Club. The Mendip Men and the Young Singers joined forces for a concert called “Some Enchanted Evening” at the stunning Holy Trinity Church in Bradford-on-Avon.
The West Wiltshire Young Singers, led by our own Musical Director, Kate Courage, wowed a full house with their fantastic performances. Our two choirs, with nearly an 80-year age gap between the youngest and oldest members, had something for everyone to enjoy. It was an awesome evening, and we raised a sizeable amount for the B-O-A Lions' charities.
Two weeks later we headed off to South Wales for our first weekend tour since before the Covid 19 pandemic. It was good to be able to re-kindle the tradition and had great fun doing it. We joined with Cowbridge Male Voice Choir on the Friday night and Taff Ely Ladies Choir the following day. They are both outstanding choirs and it was a joy to sing alongside them. At both concerts we sang a joint number with each choir followed unexpectedly by both national anthems! The Welsh anthem at both concerts was of course sung in Welsh and whilst the Mendip men all knew the tune, with the exception of one or two, we were forced to do a sort of lip sync version! … Check out the video below to see if it shows!
We're now starting rehearsals for our Autumn and Christmas lineup, and it's going to be an great mix of seasonal and Christmas songs, both old and new. Concert dates are already fixed for the season so follow this link to see them.
If you're up for singing with us, come by on a Monday night at the Midsomer Norton Methodist church hall at 7:30. Click this is you'd like more info but we'd really love to see you there!
